Pomp and Power

Pomp and Power

Oil on canvas 25 x 20 cm

A crane-like structure floating in the wild. Pomp and Power explores the strange beauty of industrial forms set against nature. I have always been fascinated by industrial shapes like cranes or power lines but have slowly been won over by the quiet persistence of nature forever reclaiming those spaces.

Provenance & Copyright

All artworks are sold directly by Martin Finnin and come from the artist’s studio, not through resale.

This painting started on a canvas printed with the Berlin floral wallpaper pattern, with some of the traces still visible. I see this as a crane structure in the wild. I find building cranes very interesting and a constant source of study. I like how they unfold and how they break up a skyline. I painted this during the lock down, not too long after returning from a year in Berlin and that urban imprint mixed with suddenly being at home, surrounded by nature and taking note of things growing around my studio.
