Painted under the Italian sun, this work captures both the calm and volatility of the landscape. A blue swirl runs through the centre like a stream turning into a waterfall, while orange structural forms rise like flames in the foreground. Layers of paint are brushed, stained, and wiped back to create distance, rhythm, and tension.

Italian Landscape With Wildfire
Each painting carries its own journey - here’s a glimpse of how this piece unfolded.
This painting began as an observation of the Italian landscape. I wanted to use paint in all its forms, splashing, staining, brushing, and wiping. The depth in the background came from building layers slowly, letting them dry for weeks before rubbing them back and starting again. All of my canvas works are painted in oil, a patient but demanding medium. It can take days or weeks between layers, but it rewards time with a sense of atmosphere that feels alive.
